Something New

Wow, it's been awhile. Well, last week I started school here at Nido de Aguilas. I love it. There are some really cool people. There are so many different nationalities. It's so cool. In my Spanish class there are these two kids; one's Australian and the other's from New Zealand. They always argue about who's better. It's hilarious. We also get into arguments about what it means when you say "football". Is it futbol, or futbol Americano?? lol Everybody that's not from the U.S. thinks football shouldn't be considered a sport. They have field hockey and rugby teams, though. lol The schedule has been a little hard to get used to. 4 classes a day 1 1/2 hours long. I'm getting used to it though. There are 8 different combinations of which class you go to when. It's confusing. One good thing though: 2o minute passing periods! idk, i'd rather have a longer lunch, though. I hung out with some people twice this weekend and had a great time. i'm starting to really like it here. Comment this if you read it. I like comments. lol peace.

Uneventfullness

Well.....the past few days have been rather uneventful. Sort of. Mostly just looking at more and more houses. We're narrowing it down though. I usually stay home, though. Well, if you can call this my home. The hotel, I mean. We had a school orientation on Wednesday. We played some games and got a tour around the school. I met some people in my grade. They seem pretty nice. I can't wait to start school. This morning, I had another orientation for school, but today it was outside. We played some field games in six different groups, then we joined all together and played capture the flag. I made the winning (and only) point. lol It was a lot of fun. I got invited to go a couple of places, but I just didn't feel like it. Idk. I'm really tired. I came home and fell asleep. Another day, though, I'll have to take up one of those offers.
One of my favorite things here is the yogurt. It's SO good! Here's a list of stuff I miss:
Milk that tastes like, well, milk! lol Having people close to hang out with. School. Being situated in a house. Having a stable, organized life. Not having to worry about going out because someone might try to talk to you in a language you don't know. Not being stared at. Not having friends that are there to help me out. And Milky Ways. haha

A Clever Title

So, yeah, if you haven't caught on yet, I'm living in Santiago, Chile. Why, you might ask? My dad got some assignment working with the Chilean Air Force down here. So, I'm doing a blog for anyone who cares about what goes on down here. I guess I'm going to have to start comeing up with a bunch of clever titles for my blog entries like my dad does. lol
Honestly, I thought I was gonna hate it, but I'm starting to like it here more and more every day. This week has been crazy. We've looked at like, a billion houses. We saw this one that you had to take an elevator down to get to it. It was really weird. The one day I decide to stay at the hotel instead of go look at more houses, they find one that everyone really likes. What the heck? Oh well, I don't really think I'm gonna get a say in what house we end up getting anyway. Whatever. Monday and Tuesday we (Lindsay, Carley and I) chilled at the May's house. They have one kid, Sarah, who is Lindsays age. They have a HUGE house! We played the beastliest game of hide-and-go-seek ever! They also have a pretty big pool. We also went there and watched movies Friday night while my parents went to this church social thing. I'm getting better at Spanish. I can succesfully order food anywhere (for the most part) and my mom often asks me for assistance. lol It's kind of scary when someone says something to you and you don't know what they said. It's happens a lot, though. agghhh!
Yesterday was awesome. The little boys were invited to a birthday party for this little girl in our ward at church. She is Henry Clark's kid. Henry's awesome. Even though he has a white name, he's super chileno and barely speaks English. He taught sunday school last sunday. So I went to this party to keep an eye out for the boys, because they don't speak any Spanish at all, and can't really communicate with any of the other kids. I talked with Henry and his wife a lot. They made amazing tacos. And these things called alfohores. They are SO good! The juice, fruit, and yogurt is really good here, too. Anyway, at this park, there were a bunch of different playgrounds. There were two that were different from any playground I had ever seen; one was big, one little. They had metal bars for a perimeter, but the rest was just a series of taut rope that you can climb on. It's really cool. I'll put up some pics later.
Well, I should go. It's late, and I'm waking up early to go work out with Mom.
Peace.

Umm......

Ok, so I decided to make a blog. I had to keep adding more and more people to my email list, so eventually I just decided this would be easier. My dad also has a blog. He actually has a talent of writing, so if you want to read his stuff go to www.beyondcapricorn.blogspot.com. He also has a lot more pictures. Anyway, the following is my first email that I sent out about my adventures in Chile.

Ok, so here's what I'm doing: I'm doing a sort of bloggish thing because so many people want me to keep in touch. It's gonna be a lot easier than sending individual emails. I was originally gonna send this to like, 50 people, but I found out that my dad is doing one too, so I narrowed it down a bit. I took out people that would get one from my dad, that way I can be more open and less formal than I would have to be. I'm gonna be doing this regularly. If you don't want to receive any more of these emails, just tell me, I won't get offended. Anyways, here I am, 11 stories up in El Plaza del Bosque, The Plaza of the Forest or something. It's our hotel. Today is my second day here in Chile. Our flight here was extremely uncomfortable. I had to sit next to a full grown man who played on his Nintendo DS the whole 9 hour flight. lol They served us food. Dinner sucked, breakfast was ok, i guess. They played Ghost Town on the plane. It was funny. We landed, and it took like, two hours to get through customs. We had 21 bags weighing 50 lbs. each. That's 1,050 pounds. Plus carry-ons. My dad and I used rope and carabeaners to attatch 6 or 7 at a time and make a train of suitcases. It was insane. We got picked up by people from the embassy.
They took us straight to our hotel. It's pretty nice. We have 3 rooms. Lindsay and Carley share a bed in one room, same with los padres, then Hyrum and Luke share a bed in my room. i'm the only one who gets their own bed. But the boys are loud. Whatever. So much stuff is different, but it doesn't feel like I'm in a foreign country. Well, it does when someone tries to talk to me, but it doesn't when i'm alone. The outlets are all different. You have to have a power adapter for everything. My mom's hairdryer blew up this morning because of the different outlets. The light switches are different, and the toilet paper holder things are different too. It's weird.
So the first thing we did was go to the US Embassy to rent a car. The girls and I sat outside with Pepper and Sadie, the cat and dog, while dad went in. It's just a gated building. hmm...well, we got a minivan and went and dropped the pets off at this lady's house because the hotel doesn't allow pets. The house was very small. There are tons of stray dogs everywhere. Drivers are crazy. Motorcyclists will weave in and out of traffic and occasionally onto the sidewalks. Everybody honksand flips each other off. The roads are insanely crowded. There's this one street, where for the first half of the day, it's a one way one way, then the other half, it's a one way the other way. What happens at the moment it changes? Weird. lol Anyway, we drove around for a bit. We went to the grocery store. Money is so confusing. We had a bunch of empanadas for dinner. We went swimming too. The pool is on the top floor, the 17th. There's a beautiful view. I'm going to put pictures up on my myspace sooner or later. Today we went house hunting. Some of the houses we looked at were pretty nice. All of them have pools. Oh yeah, it's summer here. I'm on summer vacation. I don't start school for a couple weeks. haha I had to kiss my realtor on the cheek. It was weird. Evidently people in Chile talk Spanish the fastest and hardest to understand of any other Spanish speaking peoples. Great. It's so different from the Spanish you learn in school though. We went to a mall and ate at a resturaunt called Pasta Basta. I had raviolli. All the food is so different. I already miss American food. It's not gross, but it's so, foreign? idk It's just weird. I've been trying so many different things. After lunch we went back to the hotel. I slept. I do that a lot. lol We're three hours ahead of Texas. The speed limit signs are in kilometers, not miles. It's just a bunch of little things like that that make this place so confusing.
For dinner we went to an Argentine resturaunt called Don Carlos. My meal was about $10,000. In Chilean pesos, that is. lol My dad gave Linds, Carley and I some weird looking meat stuff to try. He wouldn't tell us what it was until we ate it. It was alright. Then he told us. Blood Sausages. No meat at all. Pretty much cooked blood. Nasty. We went to a park after dinner. There were a bunch of strays, including a big ol German Shepard. Then we came home. Tomorow is church. In Spanish. Great. Well, it's midnight, and church is early so imma go. Peace out.

So I fell asleep before I could send the message, so I'll tell you about today. Church was.....confusing. For some parts, people translated for me. I thought I would understand a lot more Spanish than I actually do. Oh well, hopefully it will get better. We ate at these peoples house. They told us some stuff that kinda scared me. Honestly, I'd rather not talk about that right now. At church, I gave like, every single female a kiss on the cheek. No hugs, just awkward kisses. I'll have to get used to it. There are 4 times as much stray dogs than hot chicks. ugh. It'll get better once I go to school and actually meet some people. So there's this kid at church named Peter (lol) and he doesn't really speak English, but evidently I'm going to Fantasiland or something with him this Saturday. It's an amusement park. He told me he loved me several times.......hmm....Well, tomorow I'm going house hunting again and to a meeting with the school. And to another family's house for dinner. Great. Whatever, mabye something interesting will happen. Hey Rendillio! In about a year my dad and I are gonna climb Aconcagua! lol And for anybody who has an Ipod touch, (Zak, Spencer) my dad showed me an app where you can call people. Look it up. look up Truphone for the Ipod touch. I'ma check it out and let you know how it is. Alright, im out. peace.
